Entering a Super Contest
After defeating the first four gym leaders, you are able to travel to Hearthome City, located east of Oreburgh City. Hearthome City is the only place where you can enter Pokemon Super Contests. The contest center is two buildings to the east of the Pokemon Center, and you are eligible to enter a contest as soon as you enter the city. Any Pokemon, regardless of level or type, is able to enter a contest. Upon entering the building, speak to the woman behind the desk to register a Pokemon for a contest. You may only register one Pokemon for a contest, and you may only initially enter the lowest tier.
Different Types of Super Contests
There are four tiers of Super Contests available: Normal, Great, Ultra and Master. Pokemon must complete the previous tier before being allowed to register for a higher tier. For example, to register for the Ultra rank of Super Contests, you must have completed the Normal and Great ranks first. After choosing a rank, you select which category you wish to enter: Cool, Beauty, Smart, Cute and Tough. Each contest is divided into three portions: Appearance, Dance and Acting. In the Appearance portion, you have a set amount of time to dress your Pokemon up in accessories that best fits the category it has entered in. In the Dance portion, you must match the button presses shown on the screen. In the Acting portion, you must impress the judges using your Pokemon's move set.
Winning a Super Contest
To win a contest, you must receive the most hearts from the audience and the judges. To receive the most hearts from the audience in the Appearance portion, dress your Pokemon in the appropriate clothes for the category, such as masks and feathers. For the Dance category, match the icons on screen by pressing the appropriate button on your Nintendo DS. Correctly pressing all the buttons in time rewards you with the maximum amount of hearts. For the Acting portion, use moves that correspond to the category you are in. Your Pokemon's four available moves are listed on screen along with the category each move is in. Using the proper moves leads to additional hearts.
Rewards for Winning an Ultra Rank Super Contest
At the end of the Super Contest, you and your opponent's earned hearts are tallied; whichever Pokemon has the most hearts is the winner. For winning the Super Contest at the Ultra rank, you are awarded three prizes. The first is the ability to enter that Pokemon into a Master contest, the highest rank of Super Contest available to a Pokemon. The second reward is a hat that can be used in the Appearance section of all future contests. However, you only win the hat the first time you win the Ultra contest for that category. The third prize is a ribbon that is able to be viewed on that particular Pokemon's status screen at any time.
