Can You Connect Your DSi to Your Wii?

The Nintendo DSi comes with wireless networking capabilities that permit it to connect to the Nintendo Wii console. Once you connect to the Wii you can download game demos and use special features on certain games. These features vary from game to game, but add extra functionality and options to the Wii games that you connect to.
  1. Nintendo Channel

    • The Nintendo Channel on the Wii features a DS specific section containing game demos for the handheld system. You can try out DS games before you buy them through this channel, which offers a variety of DS game demos. The Nintendo Channel also contains extensive game information for each DS demo. Once you connect the DS to the Wii you can download the demos. The demos on the Nintendo Channel are free to try and you can search through the channel for the exact game types that you want for your DS.

    Animal Crossing

    • "Animal Crossing: City Folk" for the Wii has two different modes that interact with the DSi version of "Animal Crossing." The first mode, called Moving Van, transfers "Animal Crossing" characters from your DSi to your Wii. You can play these characters in the Wii version of the game after the transfer. The second mode, DS Suitcase Mode, allows Wii "Animal Crossing" characters to visit towns in the DSi version of the game.

    Pokemon

    • "Pokemon: Diamond" and "Pokemon: Pearl" for the DS and DSi support connecting to the Wii game "Pokemon: Battle Revolution." When you connect the DSi to the Wii with these games, you can battle your Pokemon with other players on the Wii. You use the Pokemon you unlocked on either version of the DS to compete with up to four players. The DS acts as the game controller when connected to "Pokemon: Battle Revolution."

    Considerations

    • The DSi and the Wii need to be connected to the same wireless network before you can connect the systems together. The DSi's wireless settings need to be configured prior to connecting it to the Wii. The wireless feature also needs to be enabled on both systems whether you're using the Nintendo Channel or a game connection feature.
