Trick to Beating the Coin Game in SoulSilver

"Pokemon SoulSilver," a remake of "Pokemon Silver," includes all the features of the original game including playing a game for coins and prizes. In "SoulSilver," this game is called Voltorb Flip. While there is no singular trick to beating Voltorb Flip, understanding the game and making use of the resources provided to you can increase your chance of winning.
  1. Location of Game Corners

    • There are two Game Corners in "Pokemon SoulSilver," with one located in each region. In Kanto, the Game Corner is located in Celadon City, appropriately called the Celadon City Game Corner, south of the Pokemon Center. In Johto, the Game Corner is located in Goldenrod City. The Goldenrod Game Corner is located directly north of the Pokemon Center. Once inside either Game Corner, you will notice a large table with a man sitting on the north end of it. To begin Voltorb Flip, sit on the chair directly across from the man and press "A" while facing the table.

    Voltorb Flip

    • Voltorb Flip is played on a five-by-five grid. By tapping a card, you reveal a number, ranging from one to three, or a Voltorb. The goal of the game is to reveal all the twos and threes on the board. However, if you uncover a Voltorb, the game immediately ends and you lose any coins you have won. The number on the right side of a row or underneath a column tells you the sum of the numbers in that row or column, as well as the number of Voltorbs.

    Voltorb Flip Tips

    • When the number of Voltorbs next to a row or column is zero, you can safely uncover every panel in that row or column. Try to uncover only panels that display a two or three; they actively increase your coin count and are required to win the game. When the number of Voltorbs and the sum of the numbers for a row or column equal five, the row or column features nothing but ones or Voltorbs. As you win Voltorb Flip, the level of the board increases; you can gain more coins, but the board is significantly harder. Losing at Voltorb Flip resets the board to level one.

    Using the Memo Feature

    • The Memo feature, located in the top right corner of the bottom screen of your Nintendo DS, can be used to mark tiles without flipping them. For example, if you are sure that a row or column houses nothing but ones or Voltorbs, you can mark them on the grid to easily remember which panels should not be flipped. You can use the memo feature at any time while playing Voltorb Flip.

    Prizes

    • Once all the twos and threes are uncovered, you gain a varying amount of coins based on the level of the board. Coins can be exchanged for prizes at either of the two men in the upper right corner of either Game Corner. The prizes include Pokemon, such as Porygon, Eevee, Sandshrew or Ekans, held items such as a Silk Scarf or a Wide Lens, or TMs such as Substitute, Ice Beam or Psychic.
