My Nintendo DSi XL Will Not Recognize Nintendogs

The Nintendo DSi XL features upgrades designed for compatibility with games from previous versions of the Nintendo DS line of portable gaming systems. Other features include a larger screen and wireless support, which was originally available only with the Nintendo DSi. You may experience a variety of problems when playing ̶0;Nintendogs̶1; and other games on the DSi XL.
  1. Dirt, Dust or Debris

    • When troubleshooting problems, first inspect both the DSi XL and the ̶0;Nintendogs̶1; cartridge for any dirt, dust or debris, which can block the connections between the game cartridge and game system. The ̶0;Nintendogs̶1; game cartridge has a series of metal connectors at the base that provide information to the game system. These connectors are exposed and may easily attract dust or get dirty through normal handling. You can gently wipe these connectors with a soft, dry cloth to remove any built-up dust and dirt. The inside of the DSi unit also has connectors in the game slot. Lightly tap the side of the unit without a game cartridge to knock loose any debris that may have fallen into the system.

    Incorrect Slot Placement

    • The Nintendo DSi XL̵7;s game slot is at the rear of the unit. Place the game into the slot with the metal connectors facing the front of the unit. The ̶0;Nintendogs̶1; cartridge logo should face away from the game system. There is also an SD card slot on the side of the DSi XL that is not a game slot. Do not attempt to place a game into the SD card slot as it may damage the game or console. After placing the cartridge into the game slot with the logo facing outwards, press down until the game clicks into place. The top of the cartridge should be approximately even with the top of the unit.

Damaged or Faulty Systems and Games

    • The console or cartridge can sustain damage due to drops, unexpected power fluctuations or exposure to liquids. This may prevent the console from recognizing any games, or the ̶0;Nintendogs̶1; cartridge from functioning normally. If the console plays other games without problems, the issues most likely lie with the cartridge itself. You can attempt to fix minor damage, such as a stuck power button, but major damage or faulty components require a replacement or repair by a certified expert.

    Replacement Options

    • Nintendo certifies games created by the company, including ̶0;Nintendogs,̶1; against defects for 30 days after the purchase of a new cartridge. This does not apply to pre-owned copies, however. The length of the warranty for the DSi XL console depends on such factors as the place purchased and whether or not you have registered the game with Club Nintendo. Registration provides a one-time warranty extension for all Nintendo console products. Nintendo still offers repair services for products not under warranty, but the costs vary greatly based on the type of repair needed. The company may replace games or consoles under warranty with no additional charges. Nintendo offers 24-hour support for repairs or replacement through the help line at 800-255-3700.
