The Best Places to Train Your Pokemon on Pokemon SoulSilver

In "Pokemon SoulSilver," released for the Nintendo DS in 2010, Pokemon grow stronger as they gain experience and level up. During the course of the game, you may encounter a trainer, such as a gym leader, whose Pokemon are stronger than yours. There are a variety of places to train your Pokemon to make them stronger.
  1. Training Pokemon During the Course of the Story

    • Over the course of the story, you must defeat eight gym leaders before you can challenge the Elite Four. These gym leaders often wield powerful Pokemon that may be too strong for your current group of Pokemon. The best place to train for these gym leaders is the routes adjacent to the city you encounter them in. For example, if you are having trouble beating Bugsy in Azalea Town, train your Pokemon on routes 33 and 34. The Pokemon and trainers on these routes are similar in level to Bugsy, allowing you to level your Pokemon and make them stronger.

    Victory Road

    • After you have beaten all eight gym leaders, you can challenge the Elite Four at Indigo Plateau, located north of Victory Road. The Elite Four's Pokemon vary in level from 40 to 50, making them a difficult challenge. However, the best place to train for the Elite Four is at Victory Road. The Pokemon found in the tall grass, in addition to the trainers located on Victory Road, provide suitable experience points for your Pokemon, allowing you to level up fast. At this point in the game, no other location offers Pokemon as strong as Victory Road, making it the best place to train.

    Mt. Silver

    • Once you reach Kanto, you are given access to Mt. Silver by Professor Oak. The Pokemon inside Mt. Silver vary in level from 40 to 50, making it the best place to train against wild Pokemon. However, to access Kanto and Mt. Silver, you must have beaten the Elite Four.

    Rematching Old Trainers

    • Any trainer who has taken your phone number, usually occurring automatically after beating them, can be rematched by calling them on the Pokegear. Trainers who you rematch offer higher level Pokemon and additional experience points when they are defeated. In addition, you can rematch the Elite Four any time you wish. However, keep in mind the Elite Four's Pokemon are stronger than your previous encounter, though beating them rewards a Pokemon with some of the highest experience point totals in the game.

    Exp. Share

    • The Exp. Share is an item a Pokemon can hold that splits the experience earned between the Pokemon that won the battle and the Pokemon holding the Exp. Share. This item allows you to train two Pokemon at one time, cutting down on the time it takes to train. In "SoulSilver," the Exp. Share is located on Route 30; you must trade the Red Scale, dropped by the red Gyarados at the Lake of Rage, to Mr. Pokemon to receive it. Additional Exp. Shares can be won at the Goldenrod City Lottery.
