Things You'll Need
Instructions
Purchase a replacement case.
Remove the two rubber pieces from the top of the back of the device. Two screws are hidden beneath the pieces.
Unscrew all of the screws on the back of the device. There are 9 total. Four at the top, one at the bottom. One for the battery cover, one under the cover and an additional two beneath the battery.
Lift up on the back cover to remove it from the device.
Take off the two shoulder buttons and set them to the side.
Push inward on the power switch to remove it from the back cover. You will also want to unscrew the stylus holder and the metal brace behind where the games would be inserted if your replacement case does not come with these already. This is done by unscrewing the pieces from the removed shell.
Unscrew the motherboard from the DS case. The screw has a white circle around it.
Unplug the Wi-Fi antenna cable from the top of the device. This is done by lifting up the connector. This is a white cable. Unplug the nearby black microphone cable as well. Pull the black cable underneath the cartridge reader to the right of it.
Lift up the mother board and open the DS Lite. Push the screen back to remove it from the casing. The motherboard and screen should be disconnected from the case except or a brown flatwire. Push up on the black bar on the motherboard to disconnect it. Set the motherboard aside.
Remove the buttons from the bottom screen's case. This is done by pulling off the gray plastic pieces holding them in.
Unscrew the two screws holding the LED indicator. This is on the corner opposite of where the flatwire is located. Slide the flatwire, the black wire and white wire through the slot beneath the top and bottom parts of the case. Do this carefully as you do not want to damage the wires. This will disconnect the top half from the bottom half.
Remove the four rubber pieces and screws from around the top screen.
Remove the angle adjuster from the area opposite of where the cables are currently located. You will need tweezers or pliers to pull this out. Then roll the flatwire up and slide it inside the metallic ring beside it. Use your tweezers or pliers to then pull the ring out.
Slide the top screens case down toward the flatwire. This can be done using your thumbs to push at a downward angle. This will release the shell so it can be lifted off.
Push on the screen from the outside. It is only attached with a sticky tape. Be care not to push too hard on the screen itself as you may break it. Once the screen is unstuck from the case, slide the flatwire and regular wires through the slot the flatwire was rolled in to to fully remove the screen. Pull the Wi-Fi antenna and microphone cables through the slot completely if you have not already. The case should now be completely removed.
Add the removed parts to the new case.
