How to Play YouTube on DSi

You can use your Nintendo DSi handheld gaming devicet to watch your favourite clips from YouTube. By downloading and converting YouTube files into the DPG format, you can transfer compatible files onto your DSi and then watch them offline whenever you want. As of the date of publication, YouTube only permits you to download videos that you have uploaded yourself; the website doesn't support downloads of third-party videos, nor offers paid downloads from other users.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Log in to your YouTube account and open the video you want to download in a Web browser. Click the triangle button next to "Edit" and "Insight," and select "Download MP4" from the drop-down menu. When prompted, save the files to a folder on your hard drive.

    • 2

Connect the MicroSD card to your computer.

    • 3

Download the Moonshell DPG converter (see Resources). Extract the downloaded file and move the software to the MicroSD card root folder on your computer. This root file starts with a letter, for example "E://," and corresponds with the drive your card uses.

    • 4

Download Aimersoft video conversion software from aimersoft.com. Find the video you want to convert and open it using the software. If necessary, you can edit the video at this stage by cropping the picture size or removing parts of the clip. Set the conversion output to "DPG" and click the "Start" button to begin converting your video.

    • 5

Send the DPG videos to your MicroSD card's folder once they have finished converting. Disconnect your MicroSD card safely from your computer when this transfer is complete.

    • 6

Plug the MicroSD card into the M3 DSi cartridge and insert the cartridge into your Nintendo DSi. Turn on the device and navigate to the media center to find and play your videos.
