How to Replace a DSi Game Slot

The Nintendo DSi is a portable video game console that includes a touchscreen controller and Wi-Fi functionality. The DSi is a smaller, updated model of the original Nintendo DS. The DSi only has one game slot, because the Gameboy Advance cartridge slot that was present in previous versions of the DS hardware was removed. Over time, the contact pins inside of the cartridge slot can become bent or broken. To replace the DSi game slot, the console must taken apart, and the old slot must be removed from the motherboard.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the nine Phillips-head screws from the back of the Nintendo DSi.

    • 2

Lift the back of the DSi cover, tilting the cover toward the cartridge slot. Unplug the yellow ribbon cable from the motherboard. Continue lifting the back cover to separate it from the front half of the console.

    • 3

Disconnect the old cartridge slot from the motherboard by flipping the four levers at each corner of the slot. Pull upward on the top of the slot housing to remove the component from the track.

    • 4

Slide the replacement game slot into the track. Lock the slot into place by flipping the four levers at each corner.

    • 5

Connect the yellow ribbon cable from the back of the case to the motherboard. Lower the back of the case onto the motherboard, making sure to line up all nine screw holes.

    • 6

Replace the nine screws into the back of the case.
