How to Keep Mini Mario as a Standby in New Super Mario Brothers

"New Super Mario Bros." is the first original Mario side-scroller for the Nintendo DS. It introduces a few new power-ups, including the Mini and Mega Mushrooms, which make Mario tiny and huge, respectively. The Mini Mushroom allows Mario to access normally inaccessible areas in order to bypass some particularly difficult sections of the game. These power-ups, as well as classics like the Fire Flower, can be reserved on the bottom screen and activated during gameplay with a tap of the stylus.

Instructions

  Go to the world map, and locate a Mushroom House. Defeat the course that leads up to it, and then save the game before walking to the Mushroom House.

  Enter the Mushroom House and wait for Toad to present you with a bonus item. There is a random chance that you'll be given a Mini or Mega Mushroom, which is decreased if you return to a Mushroom House that you've already used. Any item that you're given here is automatically added to your tap screen at the bottom, unlike an item awarded while playing through a stage.

  Reload your save as many times as necessary to get a Mini Mushroom from the Mushroom House.
