Cheat Codes
"Sonic Rush" doesn't accept cheat codes like some of the early games in the franchise. There's no "up-down-up-down-up-A-B-A-B" on the title screen to get 99 lives in this version of the game, but that doesn't mean you can't find ways to make playing the game a little easier or to unlock its secrets. Extra levels, bonus music and a new character await you.
Extra Lives
Having a (nearly) inexhaustible supply of lives makes playing any platform game easier. In "Sonic Rush," you can't just enter a secret code to find infinite lives, but you can certainly rack up hundreds of lives with a bit of dedication. Leaf Storm Act 2 and Mirage Road Act 2 offer two and three free lives each, respectively, by a combination of rings and a free-life box. Repeat these levels continuously until you have enough lives, then take on some of the trickier boss fights.
Unlock Blaze
After beating the first boss -- Eggman's snake robot -- in Leaf Storm, you have access to Blaze and can play the game as this new character. Beating the first boss doesn't take much, though he may look intimidating. As Eggman's snake robot repeatedly smashes his head on the ledge beneath you, jump over him and land directly on the cockpit. The robot will crumble and you'll have Blaze.
Chaos Emerald Unlocks
Once you collect every chaos emerald in "Sonic Rush" you gain access to the extra zone, which gives you two new characters -- Super Sonic and Super Blaze. Getting the emeralds can be tricky, but the DS offers you a bit of a workaround. When you see a chaos emerald in your level, quickly pause the game. Then take out the DS stylus and hold it on the screen just above the emerald. Un-pause the game and Sonic will drop onto the emerald.
