How to Get the Move Flash in Pokemon HeartGold & SoulSilver

In "Pokemon HeartGold" and "SoulSilver," Flash is a move that you can use during battle to lower the accuracy of your opponent's attacks. Since the two games are virtually the same, apart from the type of Pokemon that you can capture in them, the method for acquiring the move is also the same for both titles. You have a choice between purchasing Flash and earning it in battle. Once you teach the move to one of your Pokemon, you can also use it to illuminate dark caves.

Instructions

Buying Flash

  Play the game until you have 1,000 dollars in the game's currency.

  Travel to Goldenrod City, which is in the Johto region. You can access it from either route 34 or 35, depending on the direction from which you are traveling.

  Walk to the center of the city, where you will find the Goldenrod department store. Enter the store and take the elevator at the upper-right corner of the room. Select the fifth floor as your destination.

  Speak to the clerk on the right-hand side of the room after you exit the elevator to see what is for sale. Select "Flash" from the list of available items to purchase it.
Earning Flash Through Battle

  Play the game until you reach Violet City, and then enter the tower that you find there, just across the bridge. You will find yourself inside the Sprout Tower.

  Make your way through the tower; battle monks and wild Pokemon until you get to the top floor. You will see a short cutscene of your rival speaking to a monk. After the cutscene, speak to the monk to engage him in a battle.

  Defeat the three Pokemon that the monk uses against you. He has two level seven Bellsprouts and a level 10 HootHoot. Fire- and Psychic-type attacks are effective against the Bellsprouts, while Rock- and Electric-type attacks are effective against the Hoothoot. After the battle, you will receive a cash reward as well as the Flash move.
