Tips & Secrets for Nintendogs: Dachshund & Friends

"Nintendogs: Dachshund & Friends" for the Nintendo DS lets you pick three puppies and raise them. You must use the touch screen and microphone in this 2005 title to issue voice commands and teach your dogs tricks. This game introduces new breeds to the "Nintendogs" series, including beagles, pugs, golden retrievers, dachshunds, Siberian huskies and Shih Tzus.
  1. Unlockable Dogs

    • By earning Trainer Points through playing the game you can unlock new breeds. Here are the breeds you can get and the points required to earn them: Yorkie for 2,000 points, Shiba Inu for 4,000 points, Cavalier King Charles spaniel for 8,000 points, Pembroke Welsh corgi for 10,000 points, Shetland sheepdog for 14,000 points, miniature schnauzer for 16,000 points, boxer for 20,000 points, toy poodle for 22,000 points, German shepherd for 30,000 points, miniature pinscher for 35,000 points, Chihuahua for 45,000 points and Labrador retriever for 50,000 points.

    Present Grab

    • A present occasionally passes by on the screen when you take your dog for walk. You must tug on your dog's leash to get it to pick up the gift. These are easy to miss, but you can use a trick to know when one is about to come. If your dog stops on the map on the top screen, but keeps moving on the action screen at the bottom you can expect something to appear that is not marked on the map. This will either be a present or some garbage blowing by.

    Easy Trainer Points

    • You earn Trainer Points in the game at one point per minute spent with your pup. An easy way to earn points is to begin an action with your dog, such as brushing its coat, and let the DS sit while plugged into an electrical outlet. You can leave it on overnight and wake up with hundreds of points. Make sure your DS isn't in sleep mode before you try this trick.

    Hungry Fido

    • This trick doesn't gain you an advantage, but can be a fun effect. Watch for a lightbulb to appear after your dog does a trick. You can touch this lightbulb with your stylus and drag it to your dog. The canine will gobble down the lightbulb. This same trick works when bones appear above your dog.
