How to Get GBA Pokemon on a DSI

The Nintendo DSi, a 2009 handheld console, features more capabilities than the previous version, the DS Lite. In exchange for this, however, the bottom slot used to play Game Boy Advance games was removed, making it impossible to trade GBA Pokemon directly into your DS games. Instead, you must find the Pokemon available for trade through the Global Trading System, available in Global Terminal buildings.

Instructions

  1. Pokemon Pearl/Diamond/Platinum

    • 1

Travel to Jubilife City, marked on your in-game map. Enter the Global Terminal building to your left, which has a yellow Wi-Fi icon on its roof.

    • 2

Walk up to the woman behind the Global Trading System desk, located in the upper left hand corner of the room. Press "A" to initiate conversation, and then select "Trade" and "Yes" to save your game. Wait a few moments for the trade center to load.

    • 3

Select "Seek Pokemon" to browse Pokemon you want to receive.

    • 4

Select a name from the list of Pokemon names, followed by "Search." Wait a moment for the game to locate available Pokemon of that name.

    • 5

Tap the owner whose Pokemon you wish to receive. Some trainers may have a Pokemon they wish to receive in exchange for theirs. If you have this Pokemon or if none is listed, select "Trade" to complete the transfer.

    Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver

    • 6

Travel to Goldenrod City, located on your in-game map. Enter the Global Terminal building to the far left of the city, which has a yellow Wi-Fi symbol on its roof.

    • 7

Walk up to the woman behind the Global Trading System desk, located in the upper left hand corner of the room. Press "A" to talk, and then select "Trade" and "Yes" to save your game. Wait a few moments for the next part to load.

    • 8

Select "Seek Pokemon," followed by the name of the Pokemon you wish to receive. Select "Search" and wait for the game to locate trainers putting that Pokemon up for trade.

    • 9

Tap "Select" to browse through the search results with the directional pad.

    • 10

      Press "A" to trade.

    Pokemon Black/White

    • 11

Enter the second floor of any Poke Center, except for the one near the Pokemon Legends. In these games, the Global Terminal is no longer a building, but rather occupies the second floor of the Poke Center.

    • 12

Walk up to the woman behind the Global Trading System desk, located in the upper right hand corner of the floor. Press "A" to initiate conversation.

    • 13

Select "Global Trade" and "GTS," followed by "Trade" and "Yes" to save your game. Wait a few moments for the game to connect you online.

    • 14

Select "Seek Pokemon," followed by the name of the Pokemon you want to receive. Select "Search" and wait a moment for the game to find you matching Pokemon.

    • 15

Tap "Select," and pick one of the search results using the directional pad. Press "A" to trade when you find a suitable Pokemon.
