Games: How to Get Forretress in Pokemon HeartGold & SoulSilver

Forretress is an exotic Bug- and Steel-type Pokemon that can be tricky to locate in the ̶0;Pokemon HeartGold̶1; and ̶0;Pokemon SoulSilver̶1; Nintendo DS games. Since you cannot capture a Forretress in the wild, you will need to find, capture and evolve a Pineco, its previous form. Pineco are an arboreal species that needs to be dislodged from its treetop home with the help of a special Pokemon attack. Once you have a Forretress, you will control a tough beast encased in a strong, defensive steel shell.

Instructions

  Find a Pokemon -- such as Bidoof, Bibarel and Slowking -- that knows the Headbutt move.

  Stand next to a small tree along one of the many routes in the game. Routes 1, 8, 22 and 39 are a few of the many areas where Pineco hide in trees.

  Face the tree and access the list of Pokemon in your party. Select the monster that knows the Headbutt and use the move. If a Pokemon is in the tree, it will fall out and attack you.

  Continue using Headbutt on trees until a Pineco appears. Harm the Pineco until its health bar turns small and red, then throw a Pokeball at the Bagworm Pokemon to capture it.

  Raise Pineco̵7;s experience level to 31 and it will evolve into Forretress. Pokemon level up by gaining experience from winning battles, so use Pineco effectively in battle to quickly evolve it.
