How to Double Up in Dragon Quest IX

"Dragon Quest IX" is a fantasy role-playing game for the Nintendo DS. Players create a custom party of warriors and wizards, drawing upon over a dozen character classes. Each character class has its own set of abilities. The Gladiator class focuses on damage, often by reducing other qualities. The Double Up skill greatly increases his damage dealing potential, but at the same time lowers his defense. As with all skills, the trick to getting Double Up is to level up your character and assign skill points.

  Travel to Alltrades Abbey, which is located on an island in the middle of the game world. Speak with the priest here to turn one your characters into a Gladiator. If you already have a Gladiator, you don't need to get another one.

  Fight monsters with your Gladiator. The more monsters you fight, more experience he receives. After getting enough experience, he gains a level and earns Skill Points.

  Open the party menu and select your Gladiator. You can assign Skill Points to any of his Gladiator skills. To learn Double Up, you need at least 22 Skill Points.

  Engage in battle once you've learned the Double Up skill. Choose your Gladiator and then choose his Guts skill set. Select Double Up to activate the skill. It doesn't take any Magic Points, so you can use it at any time.
