How to Become Yoshi on New Super Mario Bros. DS

"New Super Mario Bros.," released in 2009 for the Nintendo DS, brought the "Mario" series back to basics featuring gameplay reminiscent of the original "Super Mario Bros." on the NES. Unfortunately, later series additions such as Yoshi are absent from the main game. However, many of the supporting cast members -- including Yoshi -- are available in the mini-games section. Yoshi can be found in the mini-game "Balloon Race." This mini-game can be accessed at any time and is unlocked from the start.

Instructions

  Launch "New Super Mario Bros." on your Nintendo DS.

  Select "Minigames" from the "New Super Mario Bros." main menu.

  Select "1 Player."

  Select "Action" on the left side of the screen.

  Select "Balloon Race." Tap the lower screen on the Nintendo DS to start the mini-game.

  Blow into your Nintendo DS's microphone to send Yoshi skyward. The object of the game is to get as high as possible in 20 seconds while avoiding the enemies. Touching an enemy decreases the amount of time and pops a balloon. The game ends when both balloons are popped or time runs out.
