A SoulSilver Nature Guide

When you play "Pokemon SoulSilver," your Pokemon's nature raises one of its skills at the expense of another. All Pokemon characters have a nature, and if you know it, you can teach your Pokemon moves that take advantage of its natural abilities. This is especially helpful if you want to put together a competitive team for use against real-life opponents.
  1. Attack-Focused and Special Attack-Focused Natures

    • Four natures in "Pokemon SoulSilver" raise attack at the expense of another statistic. For instance, the Brave nature raises attack and decreases speed. The Lonely nature drops defense, while the Naughty nature lowers special defense. If a Pokemon has the Adamant nature, its special attack lowers. All Pokemon with attack-focused natures like to eat Spicy Pokeblocks to increase their happiness level. If they experience confusion in battle, feed them a Figy Berry to remove the confusion.

Four natures raise special attack, such as the Mild nature. The Mild nature also lowers defense. The Quiet nature decreases speed, the Modest nature decreases attack and the Rash nature lowers special defense. Special attack-focused Pokemon enjoy eating Wiki Berries to remove confusion, and they prefer to eat Dry Pokeblocks.

    Defense and Special Defense-Focused Natures

    • The four defense-focused natures are Impish, Lax, Relaxed and Bold. The Impish nature lowers special attack, and the Lax nature decreases special defense. The Relaxed nature decreases speed, while the Bold nature drops the attack statistic. Defense-focused natures like to eat Iapapa Berries to remove confusion, and Sour Pokeblocks make them happiest.

Four natures raise special defense: Gentle, Calm, Sassy and Careful. The Gentle nature, however, lowers regular defense, which differs from special defense. It guards against special attacks while regular defense protects Pokemon from regular attacks. The Calm nature lowers attack. The Sassy nature decreases speed and the Careful nature decreases special attack. These natures enjoy Aguav Berries and Bitter Pokeblocks.

    Speed and Miscellaneous-Focused Natures

    • The four speed-boosting natures include Naive, Jolly, Hasty and Timid. The Naive nature lowers special defense and the Jolly nature lowers special attack. The Hasty nature decreases defense. The Timid nature lowers attack. Speed-focused natures like to eat Mago Berries to remove confusions, and they prefer Sweet Pokeblocks.

The last five natures -- Quirky, Bashful, Serious, Hardy and Docile -- have no effect on a Pokemon's stats. These natures are also unaffected by a specific berry and Pokeblock type. This means that no particular berry removes confusion from this type of Pokemon, and they do not prefer one type of Pokeblock over another.

How to Get the Nature You Want

    • If you want your Pokemon to have a specific nature, you need to battle wild Pokemon until you catch the one you need. A Pokemon's nature is random, but you can influence it if one of your Pokemon has the Synchronize ability. A Pokemon with this ability tends to attract other Pokemon with the same nature if you place it first on your battle team.

Another way to influence nature is through breeding. When you breed Pokemon at the Daycare Center, choose a female with the nature you want to pass on to the baby. Give the female a special item called an Everstone. You can get an Everstone if you place second in the Bug Catching Contest, or Professor Elm gives you one if you show him a Togepi. With an Everstone, you are more likely to get a baby Pokemon with the desired nature.
