Walkthrough on How to Beat Red on Pokemon: SoulSilver

You defeated the Elite Four in "Pokemon: SoulSilver," but one final challenger awaits you at the top of snow-capped Mt. Silver. Red, the original trainer from the first series of "Pokemon" games, has spent years training his powerful team. Each Pokemon's level is above 80 and they know the strongest moves available to them. It also hails constantly on the mountain, damaging members of your team and Red's team every turn. To defeat Red and become the true champion, you need a very versatile, high-level team and as many healing items as possible.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare your team to fight Red. Add a ground Pokemon to the team to battle Pikachu, an electric-type Pokemon that is the first Pokemon Red will send to battle you. Also, include one fighting-, electric-, rock- and fire-type Pokemon.

    • 2

Buy Full Restores, Max Potions and Revives at the Pokemon Store. Max Revives are very helpful items to have, if you found some. Max Revives fully restore a downed Pokemon. They are not sold in stores, but you can find them hidden in certain places throughout the region.

    • 3

Head to the peak of Mt. Silver when you are prepared. Talk to Red to start the fight. He sends out Pikachu. Send out your ground Pokemon. Pikachu's electric attacks, like Volt Tackle, won't hurt a ground-type Pokemon very much. Use an X Attack item to boost your power, if desired. Use moves like Earthquake and Rock Slide to take Pikachu out.

    • 4

Switch to your fighting Pokemon when Red sends out Snorlax. Snorlax is a normal-type Pokemon and only fighting moves will truly hurt him. Use moves like Dynamic Punch or Seismic Toss to damage Snorlax heavily. If Snorlax uses Giga Impact, your Pokemon will likely get knocked out. Revive your Pokemon and keep using fighting moves to defeat Snorlax.

    • 5

Send out a rock-type Pokemon when Red uses Charizard. Charizard is both a fire- and flying-type Pokemon, and both of these types are weak to rock-type Pokemon attacks. Charizard knows moves like Flare Blitz that do little damage to rock-type Pokemon. Hit Charizard with attacks such as Stone Edge or Rollout to take him out quickly.

    • 6

Send out your electric-type Pokemon when you face Lapras. Lapras knows Blizzard, a very powerful move, but he can only use the move five times. Heal your Pokemon if it takes too much damage. Fight Lapras with moves like Thunder or Electro Ball.

    • 7

Switch to a fire-type Pokemon when Red sends out the grass-type Pokemon, Venusaur. Strong fire attacks, like Fire Blast or Sacred Fire, do massive damage to Venusaur. Red's Venusaur can still damage you with Giga Drain and Frenzy Plant, so heal when necessary.

    • 8

Confront Red's Blastoise with an electric Pokemon. As with Lapras, Blastoise falls quickly to any kind of electric move. Blastoise also knows Blizzard, as well as Hydro Pump. You win the battle after defeating Red's sixth Pokemon.
