Sacred Ash
Sacred Ash is a healing item unlike any other in the game, and only two can be found in "HeartGold" through legitimate means. Sacred Ash can be used only outside of battle, but when used it fully restores your party to fighting health. Sacred Ash applies to every Pokemon in your party, unlike other healing items that only work on one Pokemon at a time.
Strategy
Despite the fact that Ash is found as a held item on Ho-Oh, a Pokemon will never use it as a held item. Having a full party faint in battle automatically sends you back to the last Pokemon Center you visited, so at least one Pokemon must be conscious to use it. This means that the Sacred Ash should be treated as five Max Revives and one Full Restore rolled into a single item. This can be useful as a hold out item when exploring some of the more dangerous extra dungeons in the game, where powerful Pokemon can eat through your supply of meds very quickly.
First Location
After defeating Team Rocket and beating all eight gym leaders through the main quest of the game, you will obtain the Rainbow Wing item. The Professor will then inform you that you should travel to Ecruteak City and battle the Kimono girls in the theater. After beating them, you will be given the Chime Bell. With both items in hand, climb the Bell Tower in Ecruteak City. At the top, you will find the legendary Pokemon Ho-Oh. Battle Ho-Oh to low health and toss Pokeballs at him until he's captured. Ho-Oh will be holding a Sacred Ash item.
Second Location
After defeating the Elite Four, you will be able to travel from Johto to Kanto, the land of the original Pokemon games. Go to Route 2, south of Pewter City, and find Professor Oak's Aide standing to the south of the entrance to the Diglett's Cave. You will need a Pokemon with the move Cut to chop down a tree to get to him. Talk to the Aide and he will give you the second Sacred Ash.
