How to Get Empoleon to Follow Orders

To capture each species of Pokemon in "Pokemon Diamond," "Pokemon Pearl" or "Pokemon Platinum," you need to trade Pokemon with other games to find Pokemon that aren't available in yours. Pokemon that are traded to you from other games gain experience faster, but they may not follow your orders in battle. A disobedient Empoleon may use the wrong moves, use no move at all or even fall asleep while fighting another Pokemon.

  Press the "X" button to view the menu screen, and then open the "Pokemon" menu to see the Pokemon in your party.

  Highlight your Empoleon with the Control Pad and press the "A" button. Your Empoleon's level will be displayed in the upper left corner of the screen.

  Travel around to the eight gyms in Sinnoh and battle the leader of each gym to obtain that gym's badge. Once you have four different gym badges, your Empoleon will obey you until it reaches level 51. The sixth gym badge you get will make your Empoleon obey you until it reaches level 71. Once you defeat Volkner in the Sunyshore City Gym to receive the final gym badge, your Empoleon will obey you no matter what level it is.
