How to Fight Rival in Pokemon Diamond

At the beginning of "Pokemon Diamond," you are introduced to your rival, a recurring trainer who battles with you throughout the course of the story. Your rival chooses the Pokemon that is the opposite type of yours. For example, if you select the Grass-type Pokemon, your rival chooses the Fire-type Pokemon. In addition to this, your rival acquires five other Pokemon as the story progresses. Three of these Pokemon are the same no matter what. However, the other three Pokemon your rival has changes based on the Pokemon you choose at the beginning of the game. Knowing how to counter your rival's Pokemon helps you to defeat him when challenged to a fight.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a Rock- or Electric-type Pokemon on your rival's Staraptor. Pokemon such as Rampardos or Luxray are effective against Flying-type Pokemon like Staraptor.

Use Fight-type moves or Pokemon, such as Gallade, on your rival's Snorlax. As a Normal-type Pokemon, Fight-type moves do extra damage to it.

    • 4

Use a Fire-type Pokemon, such as Magmortar, on your rival's Roserade and Torterra. Both of these Pokemon are Grass-type; All Fire-type Pokemon and attacks do double damage to them.
