How to Change Types of Hidden Power in Pokemon SoulSilver

Unlike most attacks in "Pokemon SoulSilver," Hidden Power's damage type and strength are unlisted. The individual value --- a hidden statistic that is unique for each Pokemon --- determines Hidden Power's type of attack. You cannot change the individual value, so the type of Hidden Power any Pokemon has is set. However, the individual value for a Pokemon is not set until you acquire it. You can exploit this fact to obtain a different type of Hidden Power if you don't get the one you want initially.

Instructions

    • 1

Save the game before attempting to capture the Pokemon or before the egg from breeding two Pokemon hatches. Do not save the game again until you have the correct Hidden Power type.

    • 2

Capture or hatch the Pokemon. Its individual value is determined at this point.

    • 3

Enter the Prize Corner of the Celadon Game Center, which is the casino located in the southeastern section of Celadon City. The Prize Corner is the building to the right of the casino.

    • 4

Move the Pokemon you just acquired to the first slot in your party.

    • 5

Talk to the man inside the Prize Corner. He will tell you what type of Hidden Power your Pokemon has. The Pokemon does not need to know the actual Hidden Power move for you to be able to find out what type of attack it is.

    • 6

Reset your Nintendo DS if you get the wrong type of Hidden Power. Do not save your game before doing so. Repeat Steps 1 through 5 again. The individual value for the next Pokemon you get is going to be different, resulting in a different type of Hidden Power. Repeat the process until you get the desired Hidden Power type.

    • 7

Save your game after you get the correct Hidden Power type. The individual value for the Pokemon is locked after you save the game. You cannot change the Hidden Power type again after this point.
