The Nintendo DSi and the Nintendo DSi XL are more than devices used for playing the Nintendo video games, which number up to 1,150 DS titles at the time of publication. Each handheld system has two built-in cameras for taking pictures; the Nintendo DSi Sound player for music playback and voice recording; Secure Digital flash memory card slot for expanding storage capability; and wireless network service for activities such as web browsing, downloading content; sending text messages via PictoChat and playing games online.
Physical Measurements and Weight
The Nintendo DSi XL is larger and heavier than the Nintendo DSi. The DSi, when closed, has a length of 2.95 inches, or 74.9 millimeters; width of 5.4 inches, or 137 mm; and height of 0.74 inches, or 18.9 mm. Its weight is 0.47 lb., or 214 grams. The DSi XL has a length of 3.6 inches, or 91.4 mm; width of 6.3 inches, or 161 millimeters; height of 0.83 inches, or 21.2 mm; and weight of 0.69 lbs., or 314 g.
Colors and Screen Size
Each Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL is available in three color finishes. The Nintendo DSi offers choices between Pink, Blue and Black. The Nintendo DSi XL comes in Midnight Blue, Burgundy and Bronze. Also, each video game console has dual touchscreens. However, the screen display of the DSi measures 3.25 inches diagonally, while that of the DSi XL is 4.2 inches.
Pricing
At the time of publication, the Nintendo DSi XL is $20 more expensive than the Nintendo DSi. The Nintendo DSi has a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $150. The MSRP of the DSi XL is $170. The higher price tag for the DSi XL, however, does not solely stem from its larger size. The system has three pre-installed video game titles along with built-in software that largely consists of Flipnote Studio and Nintendo DSi Browser, and two styli, one of which is of a larger size and cannot fit inside the device.
