How Do I Know if a Nintendo Repair Warranty Is Void?

Nintendo covers repairs of Nintendo products such as game consoles, games and accessories that have defects in material or workmanship. The Nintendo repair warranty coverage lasts from the date of purchase to the end of the warranty period. A Nintendo repair warranty can become void for many reasons, including damage resulting from something other than a covered issue and the warranty's expiration. To determine whether you have a void warranty, you must consider the warranty terms and the product technical problem or damage.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the warranty period on your Nintendo repair warranty paperwork to see if the time between the date you purchased the product and the date of the issue's appearance is within that period. Your warranty coverage is void if the issue occurred outside the warranty coverage period. Games and accessories usually have three months of coverage, and most devices have 12 months, with an additional three months for Wii consoles and Nintendo DSi units registered online.

Consider the device issue. If you're dealing with a product technical problem within the warranty period that isn't the result of a liquid spill, tampering or use of products not approved for use with the device, and the issue doesn't involve scratched discs or a cracked screen on a handheld, your warranty is still valid. The exception: if you removed, altered or defaced the serial number on the product, no matter the issue, the warranty is void.
