About Rock Climb
In combat, Rock Climb will deal Normal type damage to the enemy Pokemon and also has a chance to confuse it. Outside of combat, you can use this move to climb on rocks. You can teach it to several types of Pokemon, including Chansey, Venusaur, Sandslash and Snorlax.
Obtaining Rock Climb
Rock Climb is taught by a Hidden Machine, a type of item that can be used to teach moves to Pokemon. Obtain the Hidden Machine for Rock Climb by defeating the Gym Leader of Viridian City.
Similar Moves
There are several other moves that can be used both in combat and outside of combat. In "Pokemon HeartGold," you can obtain Cut, a move that allows you to remove trees, Fly, a move that allows you to travel quickly to locations you have already visited, Surf, a move that allows you to travel over water, Strength, a move that allows you to move boulders around, Whirlpool, a move that allows you to cross whirlpools, Rock Smash, a move that allows you to destroy rocks, and Waterfall, a move that allows you to climb up waterfalls.
Rock Climb in Other Games
In the next generation of "Pokemon" games, beginning with "Pokemon Black" and "Pokemon White," Rock Climb is no longer learned through a Hidden Machine. Instead, certain Pokemon, such as Venipede and Ferrothorn, learn it by leveling up; other Pokemon, such as Onix and Geodude, can learn it by being bred from a male Pokemon that already knows it.
