Star Overview
Registered Hatena users get an unlimited number of gold stars. Gold stars do not need to be purchased and are not considered rare. Other rare colored stars can be won for completing site activities, can be awarded to you by other users or can be purchased from Hatena's online shop. Rare colors are sold in a randomly assorted "color star box" with 55, 112, 580 or 1200 stars inside.
Gold Star Functions
Gold stars are used to rank Flipnote animations you like and to vote on high quality comments. Adding a star to a Flipnote also saves it in your Creator's Room as a favorite video for later viewing. You may also add rare colored stars to a Flipnote. Use colored stars sparingly, since this will permanently spend the star. You cannot run out of gold stars.
Awarding a Star
You can award a star to something you like by clicking the square gold icon with a white star in the center, located to the right of a comment or Flipnote. A dropdown will appear showing a list of colored stars you have available to assign. Choose the the gold star or rare colored star you would like to award. You must be logged into your Hatena account to award a star.
Deleting a Star
You can also delete a star you have previously awarded to an animation or comment. Hover your mouse pointer over the star you want to erase on the Flipnote website. A confirmation message will pop up asking, "Would you like to erase this star?" after five seconds. Click "OK" on this message to confirm and delete the star. You must be logged into your Hatena account to delete a star.
