Scribblenauts Level Editor Help

Released in September 2009 for the Nintendo DS, "Scribblenauts" features gameplay centered around the concept of writing words to spawn objects in the game world. Creations in the game are then used to solve puzzles involving the acquisition of "Starites," floating stars necessary for level completion. In addition to the puzzles provided in the game, "Scribblenauts" features a level editor allowing for the creation of new puzzle levels.
  1. Getting Started

    • Tapping the block on the lower left-hand side of the screen grants access to the level creator. Once open, selecting one of 12 open save slots for a created level will begin the level creation process, beginning with theme selection. Levels created in "Scribblenauts" are set in one of 10 themes, based on the levels found in the game. Once a theme has been selected, any of the cleared levels in the game can be used for a template. Selecting the desired template will advance the level creator to the edit screen.

    Placing Items

    • Tapping on the notepad at the top of the screen and writing words will allow items to be placed in the level in the same manner as in the standard game. Once items are created, the stylus can be used to drag them into the desired location. Tap on placed objects to set the desired script. A bubble will appear above the object, with arrows that allow the preset script to be modified. Object scripts can allow items, such as creatures, to behave in a certain fashion. Scripts are indicated with emoticons similar to those found when objects react in the standard levels.

    Finishing a Level

    • Once all items have been place in a level, typing "Starite" will spawn the star to be placed. Created levels in "Scribblenauts" must feature a starite in order to be complete. After the starite is in position, tapping the icon at the top-left corner of the screen will open the toolbar. Tapping the green arrow on the toolbar will allow you to test the level, while tapping the gear icon will open the "Level Settings" screen. Level name, par, music and any available hints you desire to include can be set in the Level Settings menu. Once completed, returning to the toolbar menu and tapping the save icon will save the level to the "Scribblenauts" game card.

    Sharing

    • Created levels in "Scribblenauts" can be shared wirelessly between two DS systems. In order to enable sharing, both DS owners must have access to each other's friend codes. Once codes have been exchanged, tapping the radar icon at the save slot select screen will open the ability to share levels between the two devices.
