How to Get Party Members in Dragon Quest 9 to Fight the Wight Knight

Gamers play an angel who has fallen to the mortal realm in "Dragon Quest IX" for the Nintendo DS. Players fight alone at the beginning of the game, but they can create a party of up to four fully customizable characters as they progress. Party members aren't found through storyline encounters, but are hired early in the game. Building a party is essential to beating the Wight Knight; the second boss encountered and the game's first serious challenge.

Instructions

    • 1

Head to the left of the town gate upon reaching Stormway, the second town you find as a mortal, to find the Quester's Rest. Quester's Rest is Stormway's inn where you can rest to replenish health and magic.

    • 2

Speak to Patty behind the bar and she will help you hire fellow adventurers to join your party. There are pre-made adventurers you can hire, but you can also create your own custom characters. You can choose the character's look, occupation and name with a character creation menu similar to what was used to create your main character at the start of the game.

    • 3

Fill your party with a wide spread of jobs. Your characters should complement one another. For example, add a priest for healing, a mage for magical damage and a warrior for pure physical strength if your main character is an evasive damage dealer such as a martial artist.

    • 4

Wight Knight possesses high HP, defense and attack. Have your mage use Sap to lower the Wight Knight's defense so your damage dealers can finish him before the battle wears on too long. Have your priest open the battle by casting Buff on your party to raise everyone's defense. Save your priest's coup de grace, Choir of Angels, for particularly bad Multithrust hits. Keep casting Sap and hitting with your hardest attacks and the Wight Knight will eventually go down.
