What Do You Do When You Defeat Red in Pokemon Soul Silver?

Kanto Starters

• Go to Pallet Town after Red's defeat and speak to Professor Oak in his laboratory. The professor will allow the player to accept a Kanto Starter Pokemon. Players can choose from Squirtle, Bulbasaur or Charmander. Each Pokemon starts out at Level 5. All three Pokemon evolve at Level 16 and then again at Level 36.

The Elite Four's Return

• After Red's defeat, players can choose to challenge a more powerful Elite Four a second time around. While most of the Elite Four members' Pokemon were between Levels 40 and 50 the first time around, players who return to Indigo Plateau to battle again will find that the Pokemon are typically between Levels 60 and 75. Take the time between the two encounters with the Elite Four to train Pokemon. The members' specialties include Psychic, Poison, Fighitng, Dark and Dragon-type Pokemon.

Hoenn Starters

• Players need not fear acquiring only a Bulbasaur, Squirtle or Charmander; another opportunity for a new starter Pokemon appears when players return to Hoenn after Red's defeat. Go to Saffron City' Silph Co. and speak to Steven Stone. He will reward the player with his choice of Treecko, Torchic or Mudkip. All Pokemon start out at Level 5 and evolve at Levels 16 and 36. If these Pokemon are too low-leveled for the opponents you usually battle, place the weak Pokemon at the front of the party. When battle begins, immediately switch out the weak Pokemon for a stronger ally. Both Pokemon you use in battle will earn experience points.

Red's Return

• After the player defeats the Elite Four a second time around, Red makes his return at Mt. Silver. While the Elite Four may possess stronger Pokemon a second time around, Red's party of Pokemon between Levels 80 and 88 remains the same. His party still includes Pikachu, Lapras, Snorlax, Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise. Bring a variety of Pokemon to each battle against Red.
