How to Install Wood DS Firmware

The "Wood R4" firmware is special software for the Nintendo DS handheld device that allows users to run games from a micro SD card. This is useful when you have many game cards that you do not want to carry around with you everywhere. To install and use the firmware users must own a special cartridge called the "R4." This allows the DS to boot from a micro SD card that has the firmware loaded on it.

Press down gently on the R4 card inserted in Slot 1 of your Nintendo DS. Slot 1 is located at the top of your DS and is where the game cartridges (or R4 card) must be inserted in order for the device to read them. Remove the micro SD card from the R4 card and insert it into your computer card reader.

Double-click on the drive under "Removable Devices" corresponding to the micro SD card you inserted. This will place you in the root directory card. Right-click anywhere and select "Paste" from the menu to copy the files from your hard drive to the card. You will now have a file ending in the "DAT" extension as well as a directory called "_rpg" on the card.
