How to Get the Secret Key for Rotom in Pokemon Diamond

Pokemon Diamond continues your quest to identify or capture all Pokemon in the Sinnoh Region. Rotom, an electric ghost type, is one of the most difficult to catch. Unlike the game's many legendary Pokemon, Rotom is rather weak and inexperienced (he's only level 15). Every night there is only a six-hour window (game time) to catch him. The secret key to catching him is being in the right room at the right time of night. Otherwise he will not appear.

  Travel the entire Sirroh Region battling trainers and capturing Pokemon. You can only encounter Rotom after defeating the Elite Four and becoming the Pokemon League Champion. Your core Pokemon team will be between levels 45 and 50. Choose a 5 Pokemon capture team that's between levels 20 and 25. They should be of the following types: steel, flying, bug, electric, poison, dark or ghost.

  Visit Eterna Forest. Use HM cut on a series of trees in the forest. Enter the Old Chateau.

  Check your poketch watch. You can only find Roton between 2200 and 0400 at night. Time passes quickly in the game. Leave for the area during the day and wait for until night.

  Find the room with the television. Press the "A" button. Rotom exits the TV and attacks. He is invulnerable to fighting and normal attacks. If he levitates, he becomes immune to ground attacks as well.

  Capture Rotom. He's most vulnerable to dark and ghost attacks. Start with your weakest Pokemon and use debuffing attacks such as Growl. Wear Rotom out for capture.
