Set up your R4i card if you haven't yet done so. Navigate to the R4DS website and download the latest software for the adapter. Extract the contents of the downloaded folder to your computer's desktop or another desired location.
Insert a microSD card into the computer's card reader. A "Removable Disk" window appears. Click "Open folder to view files."
Right-click on the downloaded R4i software. Select "Copy." Click on the window that displays the contents of the microSD card. Right-click an empty area in the window and select "Paste" to transfer the software to the card.
Download any DPG video converter, such as SUPER C, iWisoft or BatchDPG. Some converters are completely free, while others are free to try, but you must pay to use them past the trial period.
Open the DPG video converter and then open the movie file you want to convert. Select a destination for the converted file. Click on the "Convert" button. This button may have a different name, depending on the program you are using.
Click the microSD card window. Right-click inside the window, and click "New Folder." Name the folder "Video."
Locate the converted movie file and right-click on it, and then click "Copy." Paste the movie file into the Video folder on the microSD card.
Download Moonshell, an application that lets you watch movies on the Nintendo DS. Copy all the downloaded files to the microSD card.
Click "Safely Remove Hardware" in the Windows taskbar. Click on the name of the microSD card, select "Stop" and then click "OK."
Remove the microSD card from the reader and insert it into the R4i adapter. Insert the R4i adapter into the Nintendo DS game slot.
Power on the Nintendo DS. Select "Moonshell" from the list of applications and then select the video to play it.
