How to Get to the Underground in Eterna Forest in Diamond

Released in 2007, the Pearl and Diamond versions of the Pokemon series were the first two released on Nintendo's handheld touchscreen device -- the DS. The games boasted over 100 new Pokemon as well as improved graphics, thanks to the increased power of the DS over the Game Boy. One of the features of the new games was the Underground -- a subterranean zone separate from the main map but accessible from most of the Pearl and Diamond universe. Although the Underground can be accessed from Eterna, you do not have the item necessary for access when you first arrive in the Eterna Forest. This is acquired on the other side of the forest, in Eterna City.

Instructions

  Enter Eterna Forest, talk to the girl and head east. At the next junction, head north and engage in a double battle. Then follow the route round to another double battle. Defeat these two double battles, to progress through the woods.

  Head south, then turn east for another double battle. Continue east, then turn north for another double battle. Continue north, and then head eastward into the grass. From there, turn north, then head west and then north again, before turning east and leaving the forest.

  Cross the bridge, and continue east to enter Eterna City. Look for the Pokemon center in Eterna City, and then enter the house next door to it. Speak to an old man in the house, and he will offer you the Explorer Kit. He will first give you a short brief on how to use it.

  Open your bag menu, and click on Key Items. Select the Explorer Kit, and click "Use." Click "Yes" to confirm you want to use the item, and then the game will make you save your progress. The first gym leader will talk to you. Once you have passed him, you are free to explore the Underground.

  Take the Explorer Kit to different towns, to gain access to other areas of the Underground. Although it is labyrinthine, not all the routes within the Underground link up. Tap your screen with the stylus, and watch for things that glow. You can dig there, to reveal treasure.
