How to Get a Meganium in Pearl

Meganium, the final evolution of the Pokemon Chikorita, cannot be found in the wild in "Pokemon Pearl." Like other starter Pokemon and their evolved forms, Chikorita is only available under normal circumstances as one of three free Pokemon players can choose at the start of "Pokemon Gold," "Silver," "HeartGold" and "SoulSilver". To obtain a Meganium, or a Chikorita to evolve into a Meganium, players must use the game's trading features.

  Place a Chikorita or Meganium in the party of a "HeartGold" or "SoulSilver" game. Players who did not choose Chikorita at the beginning of the game can either restart and choose Chikorita or travel to Goldenrod City and use the Global Trade System to trade a Pokemon for a Chikorita or Meganium. This can be done by speaking to the receptionist at the GTS center, saving the game and connecting to the GTS servers through your DS Wi-Fi . Select "Seek Pokemon" and look for the desired Pokemon being offered, or use "Deposit Pokemon" to place one of your own for trade. When depositing a Pokemon you may choose which Pokemon you will trade for. Check back periodically for your new Pokemon.

  Load up both "Pokemon Pearl" and either "HeartGold" or "SoulSilver" in two Nintendo DS systems. The extra system and game can be yours or a friend's. "SoulSilver" and "HeartGold" are the fourth-generation remakes of the generation-two "Gold" and "Silver." Because the two generations are incompatible for trading, Pearl must trade with either of the two remakes.

  Go to a Pokemon Center in any town and initiate a trade at the trade counter. Perform a local trade through the "Wireless Communication" option and trade a Pokemon from your "Pearl" game for the Chikorita or Meganium.

  Use Chikorita in battle until it reaches level 16 and it will turn into a Bayleef, which will evolve into Maganium at level 32.
