How to Replace a Cracked Screen on a Nintendo DSi

The Nintendo DSi is a portable, touch-enabled, hand-held video-game device from Nintendo. This device can suffer from a cracked screen that radically reduces its usefulness and may even ruin the gameplay experience. Fortunately, you can replace the cracked Nintendo DSi screen even if you have no experience with electronic repairs and LCD screen replacement.

Instructions

    • 1

Power down the Nintendo DSi and remove the AC adapter from the back of the device if it is plugged in. Also, remove the stylus and game cart from the machine.

    • 2

Turn the Nintendo DSi over and remove the battery. The battery can be found at the left rear of the device and can be pulled out.

    • 3

Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the seven screws from the back of the Nintendo DSi. There is one screw at each of the two bottom corners and an additional five screws along the top back of the device.

    • 4

Pry the back of the Nintendo DSi's cover off now that it is loose.

    • 5

Find the three cables at the bottom center of the green motherboard that is revealed behind the DSi's back cover. Pull up on each of the black connectors that the cables lead into and then pull the cables out.

    • 6

Disconnect the Nintendo DSi power wires. These wires extend into a white connector at the bottom center of the motherboard. Push the white connector upward with the edge of a flathead screwdriver and then pull out the power wires.

    • 7

Take out the four screws from the motherboard using your Phillips screwdriver. Three of these screws are on the left side of the motherboard, and the final screw is at the top right corner.

    • 8

Pull slightly up on the motherboard to reveal the two cables that still connect it to the rest of the Nintendo DSi. Do not disconnect the cables. Put the motherboard gently to the side of the DSi.

    • 9

Remove the cracked screen from the Nintendo DSi now that it has been loosened within the housing.

    • 10

Slide the replacement DSi screen into the device.

    • 11

Work through the steps in reverse to reassemble the Nintendo DSi.
