How to Get the Rock Climb HM in Pokemon SoulSilver Version

All of the games in the "Pokemon" series, including "Pokemon SoulSilver," include a set of moves known as hidden machines (HM). Each HM remains in your inventory forever, no matter how many times you use it to modify a Pokemon's move set. Whenever you provide a Pokemon with an HM, the HM permanently overwrites that Pokemon's move slot; the Pokemon may never replace the learned HM with a new move.

Instructions

  Defeat the trainers at the Viridian City gym. The Viridian trainers use Pokemon of level 50 to 60, most of them Water-, Normal-, Flying- or Psychic-type Pokemon. Attack the trainers using Electric-, Grass- or Normal-type Pokemon of level 50 or higher to have the best chance of winning.

  Earn the "Earth Badge" by defeating the blue gym leader. The blue leader uses the Pokemon Exeggutor, Rhydon, Machamp, Gyrados, Arcane and Pidgeot, all of them between levels 52 and 60. The blue leader's Pokemon offer a wide variety of strengths and weaknesses, so defeat them with your own set of well-rounded characters. If possible, include Grass-, Electric-, Psychic-, Ground-, Dragon- and Water-type Pokemon.

  Walk outside the gym. Wait for Professor Oak to call you and ask you to visit Pallet Town.

  Navigate to Pallet Town using the Fly HM.

  Walk into Professor Oak's house, then stand next to him and press the "A" button. Professor Oak will provide you with the Rock Climb HM and allow you to visit Mr. Silver.
