DS Lite's Stylus Won't Work

The Nintendo Dual Screen (DS) Lite utilizes a display screen and a touch screen. To operate the touch screen, users tap the screen with the tip of the included Nintendo stylus. If the stylus fails to input commands, the problem typically lies with a specific game, a dirty touch screen, a broken stylus or a completely broken touch screen. Though you can troubleshoot most problems with a few steps, a broken touch screen requires repair by a professional.

Instructions

    • 1

Push the power slider to "Off." Wait several seconds and push the slider to "ON." Attempt to use the stylus again. If it currently functions, the problem was most likely a game glitch. If the stylus fails to function, continue troubleshooting.

    • 2

Turn off the DS, remove the game cartridge and replace it with a new game cartridge. Turn on the DS again and attempt to use the stylus. If the stylus functions, the problem lied within the game cartridge. If it fails to function, continue troubleshooting.

    • 3

Re-calibrate your touch screen. Turn the DS off, remove the game and press the "Power" button. At the "Touch the Touch Screen to Continue" screen, press the "A" button. Highlight the "Settings Menu" and press "A." Move the cursor over the cross hair using the control pad and press "A." Tap the exact center of the red square as it appears then press "Confirm." If re-calibration fails to fix your stylus problem, continue troubleshooting.

    • 4

Tap the DS screen with your finger, using your finger as if it were a stylus. If your finger successfully inputs commands, the problem lies within the stylus.

    • 5

Clean the tip of the stylus with a damp cloth and attempt to use it. If it still fails to function, replace it with a new stylus. Typically, the DS Lite comes with two styluses.

    • 6

Clean the touch screen. Wipe the screen with a slightly damp cloth then wipe it with a dry cloth. If dirt remains, wipe and dry the touch screen again.

    • 7

Attempt to use your stylus again. If your stylus fails to function, your touch screen requires professional repair. Visit an official Nintendo store to repair your DS Lite.
