How to Catch a Hippopotas in Pearl

In "Pokemon Pearl," the ground-type Hippopotas makes an ideal choice when facing electric-type foes. The Hippopotas is immune to all electric attacks, and it sustains only half the normal damage from poison and rock attacks. The hefty Hippopotas loves mud and being underground. In the Sinnoh region, Hippopotas lives deep within the Ruin Maniac Cave. To enter the cave's tunnel, you must accept the Ruin Maniac's challenge to find as many Unown as possible.

Instructions

- 1
  Go to Route 214, located south of Veilstone City and north of Valor Lakefront. Walk down the path until you see a cave entrance. Go inside.

  Talk to the Ruin Maniac in the cave. He offers to make the tunnel longer if you catch some Unown. Twenty-six types of Unown exist in the region.

  Head to Solaceon Town and enter the ruins there. Many types of Unown live in the ruins. Catch all 26 kinds and return to the Ruin Maniac Cave to see that the Ruin Maniac has made it much longer.

  Walk through the Ruin Maniac Cave until you reach a door on the other side. This leads to the Maniac Tunnel.

  Run around in the Maniac Tunnel until a Hippopotas appears. Hippopotas is very slow, so it is possible to catch it easily using a few Ultra Balls.
