How to Catch a Monferno in Pokemon Pearl

Evolving to Monferno

  Select Chimchar as your Starter Pokemon when asked by Professor Oak at the start of the game. You will be unable to obtain Monferno later in the game if you select either Turtwig or Piplup.

  Battle other Pokemon using your Chimchar to gain experience points. Chimchar will level up as you gain experience.

  Reach Level 14 with Chimchar to be given the option to evolve it to Monferno.

  Select "Evolve" to turn Chimchar into Monferno.

Breeding for Monferno

  Capture a Ditto if you have a male Monferno, Chimchar or Infernape that you want to breed. You can only catch Ditto after you have completed the game's main storyline and completed the Sinnoh Pokedex. Ditto is available in Route 218. Use your PokeRadar in the patches of grass to encounter a Ditto, then weaken it using your strongest Pokemon. Capture the Ditto using a Pokeball.

  Capture a Ground Egg Pokemon or a Human Shape Egg Pokemon if you have a female Monferno, Chimchar or Infernape you want to breed. Ground Egg Pokemon include Pikachu, Psyduck and Eevee. Human Shape Egg Pokemon include Abra, Croagunk and Lucario.

  Travel to the Daycare Center in Solaceon Town and leave the two Pokemon you would like to breed with the woman inside.

  Return to the Daycare Center to see if your Pokemon laid an egg. You will have a level one Chimchar once the egg hatches.

  Evolve Chimchar into Monferno using the previously described method.
