Internet Availability
With the Nintendo DSi, you can surf the Internet through a Wi-Fi connection. Previous models of the DSi, known simply as DS, were portable gaming systems somewhat similar to the traditional Nintendo Gameboy. In 2008, Nintendo launched the DSi, which gave users the ability to not only play games online, but also to use the Internet.
Features
Though you are able to access the Internet through the DSi, its connection speed is considered slow by most users. As such, the DSi isn't the ideal for high-bandwidth activities such as watching videos or streaming live audio online. It is, however, more than suitable for simpler, text-based sites such as email and reference sites. Other features of DSi models include hundreds of game options, two screens, a built-in camera and an SD card slot.
Wi-Fi Connectivity
The Nintendo DSi uses a Wi-Fi connection, meaning you can only use the device to access the Internet in areas in which a wireless connection is available. If you use a wireless router at home, for example, you can connect to that network on your DSi. Likewise, you can access the networks in hotels, coffee shops, libraries and other public areas. Users shouldn't compare the DSi with smartphones, for example, which allow you to access the Internet virtually anywhere.
Connecting to Wi-Fi
When you're in an area with a Wi-Fi connection, browse to the DSi's "Settings" menu and enter the password of the network to which you wish to connect. The DSi will send a signal to that network's router, and provided you entered the right password, your device's Wi-Fi light will turn on, indicating that you're connected to the network.
