How to Fix a Wet DS Game

The Nintendo Gameboy DS is a highly popular handheld console. The DS has been a very good system for children due its sturdiness and solid case. The console uses games encoded on ROM cartridges. While DS game cartridges are capable of withstanding drops, they are not waterproof. Accidentally dropping a DS game cartridge in liquid can cause severe damage. Luckily there are steps you can take to reduce the likelihood of damage to the cartridge. Follow these steps only if the game was briefly in liquid and then removed.

Things You'll Need

DS Game Cartridge
Dry cloth
Silica gel packet
Clear bag
Second dry cloth

Instructions

  Remove the DS game cartridge from the liquid. Carefully allow any excess liquid to drip away from the cartridge.

  Use a dry cloth to pad around the DS game cartridge and the connector area.

  Place the silica packet inside the clear bag. Next insert the DS game cartridge inside the bag. Allow the cartridge to remain in the bag for a half hour.

  Take the DS game cartridge out of the bag. Place the catridge on a second dry cloth. Allow to sit for 24 hours. This step will ensure that no remaining moisture is present.

  Test the DS game cartridge. If there are any loading problems or any display errors on the DS screen then replace the game cartridge.
