What Is a Bad Egg in Pokemon Diamond?

In "Pokemon Diamond" for the Nintendo DS, bad eggs are eggs that cannot be hatched. As eggs cannot be given away or disposed off, if an egg cannot hatch, it can't be released. That will give you less space to store other Pokemon. Bad eggs are normally received through faulty Action Replay codes.
  1. Action Replay

    • The Action Replay is a game modifying device that adds input codes. They can make the game easier, more difficult, or allow a player to explore the game's programming. To use an Action Replay device in conjunction with "Pokemon DIamond," insert the game into the Action Replay's cartridge slot. Insert the Action Replay into the Nintendo DS system's cartridge slot. When the DS is turned on, you can use the Action Replay code screen to input any code you want.

    Bad Egg Codes

    • Players don't mean to input bad egg codes. Most Action Replay codes are found online, and some are created by malevolent players. These codes may state that you will receive a rare Pokemon if you use them. Instead, you receive a bad egg that you can not get rid of through normal game play.

    Function

    • Bad eggs are a result of a programming glitch. Each egg hatched in "Pokemon Diamond" has a specific value to associate it with a certain species of Pokemon. Bad eggs do not have that value or they have a nonsensical value. This creates an egg that does not correlate to any species of Pokemon in the game. If the egg were to hatch, the game would freeze. Because of this, the egg just takes up space in your party that could be used by an active Pokemon.

    Code Fix

    • The only way to get rid of a bad egg is through another code for the Action Replay. Some of these fix-it codes will change the bad egg into the egg of a certain Pokemon, like Pikachu. These codes can be found at various Action Replay code sites, such as SuperCheats.com or NeoSeeker.com. Enter the fix code in the Action Replay code screen, start the game and try again to hatch the egg. Once the egg has hatched, you can then decide if you want to keep it or release it.
