How to Move the People Battling Near the Professor's House in 'Pokemon HeartGold'

The new Pokemon release "HeartGold" is a Nintendo DS remake of the original Pokemon "Gold" version. In "HeartGold," players play through the same story line as in "Gold," however there are a number of gameplay and aesthetic changes that take advantage of the stronger Nintendo DS hardware. In the first part of the game, the player begins in New Bark town and must run an errand for Professor Elm. Before you complete this errand, the path allowing you to explore the rest of the game world will be blocked by two non-player characters who are battling.

Instructions

    • 1

Head west onto Route 29 after talking to Professor Elm and your mom in New Bark town. Follow Route 29 until you reach Cherrygrove City.

    • 2

Talk to the old man at the front of the city and follow his tour through the city. At the end, he will give you running shoes.

    • 3

Head toward the road that the old man pointed out. He will stop you before you leave and give you the map card for your Pokegear. Continue out of the city and onto Route 30.

    • 4

Go right at the fork in the path. The left path is blocked by the two trainers who are locked in battle. Enter the building at the end of the right path. Talk to the man inside. That is Mr. Pokemon. He will give you an egg to take back to Professor Elm, as well as a Pokedex.

    • 5

Head back to Cherrygrove and attempt to leave the city in the direction of New Bark town. A mysterious person will challenge you to a battle. Battle him and continue to New Bark town via Route 29.

    • 6

Enter Professor Elm's lab. The police will be talking to Professor Elm. Someone has broken into his lab. The police will question you, giving you the opportunity to name the mysterious trainer who battled you in Cherrygrove City. Talk to Professor Elm after the policeman leaves.

    • 7

Leave the Lab and go onto Route 29. A non-player character will show you how to catch Pokemon and give you five Pokeballs. The two trainers blocking the left path on Route 30 will be gone at this point, allowing you to continue on your journey.
