The R4i-SDHC and Nintendo DS Models
The R4i-SDHC card was released to be compatible with the technological developments of the Nintendo Dsi. Therefore, the R4i-SDHC is compatible with the Nintendo DSi, DS Lite and DS XL. The release of the Nintendo 3DS, a version of the DS with 3D capabilities, prompted the release of the R4i-SDHC 3DS card, which the maker claims to be compatible with the 3DS.
Games
The maker of the R4i-SDHC card claims that it has 100 percent compatibility with Nintendo DS games. That means that any game files which are saved as NDS files can be played on the Nintendo DSi, DS Lite or DS XL when they are stored on the R4i-SDHC card.
Video
There have been many independently created homebrew media players that facilitate the playback of video files. Once these programs have been transferred to the R4i-SDHC card, the Nintendo DS console has the capability to play DPG files, which is an NDS-MPEG format. There are websites and programs that can convert other video formats to DPG files.
Music
Homebrew media players for the R4i-SDHC such as MoonShell make the DS capable of playing audio files. As of 2011, the R4i-SDHC can play MP3, Ogg Vorbis, AAC, WAV, WMA and FLAC audio files. Providing that there is enough space on the microSD card that stores the files, users can play anything from a music file to a podcast to an audiobook.
