How to Use the Vs. Recorder in Pokemon HeartGold

In "Pokemon HeartGold," the Vs. Recorder allows you to record and watch battles you've completed. While you can only save one of your own battles in the Vs. Recorder at a time, you can upload more to the Global Trade Station as well as download and watch battles others have completed. The biggest downfall of the Vs. Recorder is that it only records battle done via Wi-Fi, Ninento Wireless or at the Battle Frontier. Regular battles against trainers and wild Pokemon cannot be recorded.

Instructions

    • 1

Enter the gatehouse just to the west of Violet City. Once inside, your rival will give you the Vs. Recorder.

    • 2

Walk to the Battle Frontier just north of Route 40. Fly there if you have already visited the area.

    • 3

Participate in one of the challenges offered at the Battle Frontier. Choose from the Battle Hall, Battle Arcade, Battle Tower, Battle Castle or Battle Factory.

    • 4

      Save your game when prompted.

    • 5

Select the "Record" option before a battle you want to save in the Vs. Recorder. The battle will be automatically recorded.

    • 6

Open your bag from the screen on the bottom menu once you have finished the battle. Scroll over to the "Key Items" menu and select the Vs. Recorder.

    • 7

Choose the "Use" option, then touch the screen where prompted.

    • 8

Pick "Battle Videos," then "My Video" to watch your recently completed battle from the Battle Frontier. You can also watch videos you've downloaded from the Global Trade Station or your friends.

    • 9

Select "Frontier Record" instead to check how many Battle Points you've earned and to see other information regarding your career on the Battle Frontier.
