How to Connect a DSi to a Mac

Nintendo's DSi handheld gaming system is able to connect to the Internet via a wireless Internet connection to play games online. If you do not have a wireless router, but you have a Mac computer connected to the Internet via an Ethernet cable, you can share the Mac computer's connection with the DSi.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Apple" icon in the computer's menu bar and select the "System Preferences ... " option from the Apple menu.

    • 2

Click the "Sharing" option beneath the "Internet &Wireless" heading. Place a checkmark next to the "Internet Sharing" option in the Sharing window.

    • 3

Place a checkmark next to the "AirPort" option beneath the "To Computers Using" heading.

    • 4

Click the "Airport Options ... " option and type a name for the connection in the space provided. Click the "OK" button to save the changes, followed by the "Start" button to begin Internet sharing.

    • 5

Click the "Finder" icon in the computer's dock, followed by the "Applications" folder icon. Click the "Utilities" folder icon and double-click the "Terminal" application icon to launch the application.

    • 6

Type "ifconfig en1" in the Terminal window and press the "Enter" key. Write down the IP address listed next to the "inet" heading. An example IP address would be "10.2.2.1."

    • 7

Type "dig" in the Terminal window and press the "Enter" key. Write down the IP address listed next to the "SERVER" heading.

    • 8

Turn on the DSi system and tap the "System Settings" icon on the DSi's home screen. Tap the "Internet" option, followed by the "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Settings" option. Tap the "None" option listed beneath one of the connection listings to create a new connection.

    • 9

Tap the "Manual Setup" option. Type the name you gave your Macbook connection in Step 4 in the space labeled "SSID."

    • 10

Select the "No" option next to the "Auto-obtain IP Address" heading. Type the IP address you obtained in Step 6 in the space labeled "IP Address," with the last digit of the IP address increased. For example, if the last digit of the IP address is "2," enter the IP address with a last digit of "3" or above.

    • 11

Enter "255.255.255.0" in the space labeled "Subnet mask." Enter the IP address you obtained in Step 6, exactly as you obtained it, in the space labeled "Gateway."
