How to Evolve Magmar Into Magmortar in SoulSilver

In "Pokemon SoulSilver," Magmortar is a fiery behemoth with sharp claws and a cannon on one arm. From this cannon, Magmortar shoots blasts of fire to destroy any foes in his way. Magmortar evolves from Magmar, a Pokemon once thought to have no further evolutions. To evolve Magmar, you first need to make him hold a certain item. Then, when you trade Magmar to a friend, he becomes the flaming giant, Magmortar.

  Get the Magmarizer hold item, if you do not already have one. If you own a Pokewalker device, put any Pokemon in the in-game PC. Transfer the Pokemon to the Pokewalker, and choose the Amity Meadow route. Walk with the Pokewalker for at least 2,500 steps. The Pokemon finds a Magmarizer as it walks with you.

  Obtain a Magmarizer from Cinnabar Island if you don't have a Pokewalker. Go to the Kanto region and head to Cinnabar Island, located south of Pallet Town. Climb up the mountain near the Pokemon Center using the Rock Climb move. Head left and drop down to pick up the ball holding the Magmarizer.

  Open your inventory and select Magmar. Select "Item" and then "Give." Choose the Magmarizer to make Magmar hold it.

  Go into a Pokemon Center and walk upstairs. Speak to the girl at the center counter. Have a friend who also owns "Pokemon SoulSilver" do the same.

  Select Magmar when asked which Pokemon you want to trade. Have your friend confirm the trade on his Nintendo DS. Magmar is sent to your friend's game. When Magmar is traded, he evolves into Magmortar.

  Have your friend repeat the trading process to send Magmortar back to you.
