Acquiring Mew in "Emerald"
Previously, Nintendo held special events for the key item "Old Sea Chart." While you cannot get this item from an event, speak to friends who did get the item. Go to any Pokemon Center and enter the room with the Record Mixer. All players involved in the record mixing sit in the chairs surrounding the Record Mixer table to start the process. Travel to Hoenn and, using your new Old Sea Chart, travel to World's Edge Island. Explore the locale until you run into Mew, who turns and runs away from the player. Pursue Mew until it enters into battle with you. Bring a party of Pokemon that can battle against a Level 30 Mew.
Acquiring Mew in "FireRed"
Like "LeafGreen," Pokemon events for Mew ended for "FireRed" in 2007. Use the Global Trading System to trade for a Mew from other players, or exchange Pokemon with a friend. If you acquire Mew from a friend, you can then trade Mew to your copy of "Diamond" to duplicate it. While you cannot then trade Mew back to any Game Boy Advance game, you can trade the duplicated Mew to one of your friend's Nintendo DS "Pokemon" games.
Acquiring Mew in "LeafGreen"
Nintendo held events for Mew on "LeafGreen" until 2007. Since players can no longer attend these events, you must trade for the Pokemon from other friends. Players cannot obtain Mew in-game in any other fashion. You can trade through the Global Trading System, acquiring a Mew from players all over the world.
Cloning Pokemon for "Diamond"
While Mew is sometimes given away during Nintendo events, players can acquire it through a cloning process on "Diamond." A friend must trade a Mew to his copy of "Diamond," "Pearl" or "Platinum" from "FireRed," "LeafGreen" or "Emerald." Your friend must travel to the Jubilife City GTS Building. Ensure that Mew is in his party, along with at least one empty space for a cloned Pokemon. Talk to the Wi-Fi representative behind the counter. Select Mew to upload. During the upload process, a second hand moves around in circles; count each small movement it makes, as well as each full rotation. Write these down. When the upload ends, choose to abandon the process and take Mew back. Set the system down and do not move it. Start the upload process again, taking note of small movements and rotations again. Turn off the system a few movements before the upload finishes. Turn on the system again. You should see an "Error" message. Approach the Wi-Fi representative to get your Mew back from the GTS system; you should also have Mew in the party. Your friend can then trade the cloned Mew to your game.
Trading Between GBA Games and "Diamond"
Insert the GBA game holding Mew into the GBA slot of the Nintendo DS. Insert "Diamond" into the DS Slot. Turn on the system. From the main menu, select "Migrate from..." and choose the GBA game. Pick "Mew" to migrate. Go to the Pal Park in "Diamond" to capture Mew.
