Things You'll Need
Instructions
Ensure there is no game cart in the Nintendo DSi and that the stylus is removed from the back of the system. Power down the system and remove the battery, which is on the back right of the device.
Remove the seven screws on the back of the device using a small Phillips screwdriver. There are five screws arching across the top of the device's rear, as well as one in each of the bottom corners.
Pry the back cover off now that it is loose. Disconnect the three cables at the bottom center of the green motherboard that is revealed. Lift up on each of the black connector clasps to release each of the three cables.
Disconnect the power wires. The white power wire connector is at the bottom corner of the motherboard. Use the tip of a flathead screwdriver to push the connector up and remove the wires.
Remove the four additional screws on the motherboard using the Phillips screwdriver. There will be three on the left side and one at the very top of the right side of the board.
Lift up the motherboard and set it aside. Do not pull the motherboard out entirely or in a jerking motion, as it is connected to the DSi via two cables.
Pull the bottom LCD screen and touch assembly straight out of the DSi now that the motherboard is out of the way. The LCD/touch screen can simply be pulled straight up and out.
Disconnect the motherboard's screen cable. The screen cable plugs into a black clasp on the edge of the motherboard. Lift up very gently on this clasp and remove the cable. These clasps are fragile, so do not pull up too harshly.
Remove the camera cable from the connector on the other side of the motherboard in the same manner you did the screen cable.
Turn the DSi around so the black front face is facing you. Remove each of the four screws on the bottom half of the unit with the Phillips screwdriver.
Close the DSi. Push the top cover forward a few millimeters so that it is loose. Pry around the edges of the cover and pull it gently off.
Pry the middle camera from the socket beneath the top cover. This socket is at the middle of the device. Remove the second camera in the same manner.
Locate the arrow on the left hinge of the DSi. This hinge connects the top and bottom halves of the device. Use a screwdriver's tip to push the hinge upward at this point, just as the arrow prompts you to. This will leave the two halves connected only by the LCD cable and camera.
Slide both cables through their slots in the bottom half of the case. This will separate the device's two halves.
Work along the edges of the DSi's now loose top screen and pry the screen gently out. This will leave behind the top screen cable.
Slide the replacement screen carefully into the spot vacated by the old screen.
Reassemble the DSi by working in reverse and repositioning all the components and cables in the opposite order you removed them.
