Turn your DSi off. Turn the DSi to the back side on a flat surface. Unscrew the two screws on the back battery cover with a mini Phillips screwdriver. Remove the battery cover and then remove the battery.
Pop out the two rubber feet that are covering the screws on the top edge of the DSi. Unscrew the five screws that are around the corners of the DSi along with one screw just above the battery slot using a Philips screwdriver.
Unscrew the screw that is just above the game slot using a small Philips screwdriver.
Lift the bottom of the DSi case gently because a ribbon is still attached to the bottom case. Lift up the ribbon from its connector to release the bottom case and set the bottom of the DSi case aside.
Detach three ribbon cables that are around the green part on the right side of the bottom portion of the case. Lift the hinge up and slide it out of its connector.
Detach the power connector (small white connector on the motherboard) by sliding it out of its connection.
Pop out the ribbon cable from the motherboard using your flat-head screwdriver in the upper-left corner.
Remove the four black screws that are holding the motherboard in place using a Phillips screwdriver. Lift the motherboard slightly and lift a small ribbon cable out of its socket at the top of the motherboard.
Lift the motherboard completely to see a ribbon underneath. Lift the hinge that is connected to the motherboard to remove the ribbon completely.
Detach the "mother" from the motherboard which is a black piece connected to a white cable. Pull it up with your hands to remove it from the motherboard. Your motherboard is completely removed from the bottom case. Lift the screen out of the bottom case.
Turn the front case toward you as if you where playing a game. Use an X-acto knife to remove the four rubbers around the base of the top case that is hiding four screws. Unscrew the four screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
Slide the back half of the top case up. Turn the top case down to remove the back half of the top case completely to reveal the parts. On the upper-right corner of the top case, lift the silvery board out of its socket along with the white cable that is attached to it.
Lift the ribbon cable on the upper-left side of the top case carefully. Pry the upper screen away from the housing using a small flathead screwdriver. Lift the screen out of its position along with the two speakers on the left and right side of the screen.
Remove the joints that are holding the wires in place and then pull out the wires. Replace the top screen with the design of your choice and reassemble all parts.
